579 Squadron and Detached Flight, are small and friendly units based in the spa town of Llandrindod Wells and the border market town of Knighton respectively. Both units are run and administered by a small but dedicated team of staff, led by Flight Lieutenant Emma Pinches RAF VR(T).
Our cadets are not only from Llandrindod Wells and Knighton, but from the surrounding areas, due to our rural location, some of them travel considerable distances to attend our weekly parade nights - which we believe shows just how much they enjoy being part of our Unit and the Air Cadets in general. |

The Squadron or Detached Flight will be the centre of your cadet activities if you choose to join.
The Air Training Corps is made up of thousands of Squadrons across the country, because there are so many, the country is divided into Regions, and Wings group the Squadrons together. 579 Squadron and Detached Flight are part of No 2 Welsh Wing in Wales and West Region. We are one of 23 Squadrons in the Wing, and the only Detached Flight!
No 2 Welsh Wing is split into Sectors, local squadrons who collaborate on camps and activities on a regular basis and we are in Sector 7, along with 2416 (Newtown) Squadron and 2364 (Welshpool) Squadron. |
The weekday activities are generally held at either the Squadron or the Detached Flight on the following days: -
579 (Llandrindod Wells) Squadron meet every Monday night 19:00 - 21:30 at Squadron Headquarters, Quarry Lane, Llandrindod Wells, (above the hospital)
579 (Knighton) Detached Flight meet every Thursday night 19:00 - 21:30 at The Drill Hall, Bowling Green Lane, Knighton, (behind Harry Tuffins)
Despite our small size we aim to offer our Cadets the full Air Cadet experience. We try to attend and enter a team in every Wing event, whether it be sports, shooting competitions, the annual raft race or Wing Parade - 579 Squadron and Detached Flight will be there! |
