77 Cadets - 12 Staff - 1 Week - Great Times!
Saturday 8 August 2009, saw 3 bleary eyed Cadets from 579 Squadron, departing Squadron HQ at 04:00am accompanied by Flt Lt Emma Pinches, their destination was RAF Aldergrove in Northern Ireland, which was to be home for the next week during the No 2 Welsh Wing Summer Camp.
Following a long journey, through four countries, Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, involving a mini-bus (thank you Mr H!), bus (Marik, you were fantastic!) and ferry (thank you Stenaline!), we finally arrived at RAF Aldergrove at 18:00 on Saturday evening. It was straight into the Mess for tea, before bedding down for the night, in preparation for a busy, but fun week ahead.
In September, RAF Aldergrove, will be bringing down the Ensign for the last time, and the Station will be renamed Joint Helicopter Command Flying Station Aldergrove. No 2 Welsh Wing Summer Camp is one of the last to be held at RAF Aldergrove and the Station made sure it was a Camp to remember.
During the week, cadets visited many of the sections on RAF Aldergrove, so see what life is like in the Royal Air Force. Trips out of the Station made sure Cadets experienced the stunning scenery and friendly people of Northern Ireland.
