Report on the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Assessed Expedition by Cadet Tammy Bishop
We were given a long list of items to pack into a bag that we had to carry with us all weekend and believing that it would never fit into it neatly, at the Drill Hall we had to unpack it and pack it properly! When we set off early in the morning we were given a map each and some instructions on where to meet and the pace and other things.
When we got to our first checkpoint we were disappointed as we could still see Knighton! For the rest of the day it was the same but eventually we couldn't see Knighton anymore, but when we got to our campsite we had to climb another hill just to put our tents up! We put our tents up and cooked dinner before going to bed really early as it was cold and dark.
When we got up in the morning it was so cold you could see your breath! We cooked breakfast and packed everything up. We set off, up another big hill in the freezing cold! Then we got lost and Jonathan spent most of the day telling us he was always right and we were always wrong. We spent most of the second day getting lost but we learnt that we should check several times where we are before we guess where we are! In the end we got picked up and dropped off back on the route but we still had a long way to walk back to Knighton. When we got back to the Drill Hall, we had some time to rest before putting our tents up to dry. We went home to rest and recover from the weekend as we were all really tired and aching.
We had lots of fun and learnt lots of things. We took lots of pictures to keep and loads of memories that won't be forgotten! |
